Chronoswiss With New Products
In The Limited Edition SkelTec
If we talk about Skeletonized watches, it is not a creation of modern times. This element has its roots in the 18th century, and the Chronoswiss brand, which has more than one such model in its portfolio, has recently created and unveiled two modern limited-edition models that bring sophisticated aesthetics directly to the present. The Swiss watchmaker introduced a watch for 2020: the newly minted SkelTec and the Opus chronograph, which update the model originally released in 1995. Both represent the company's signature on elegant hardware and focus on advancing the internal workings of every style they produce, no matter how complicated.
SkelTec, which runs on a radically designed C.304 home machine developed in Lucerne, demonstrates the brand's command with skeletonized pieces, which has been improved since 1981. Forged from stainless steel (or 18 k red gold in one iteration), its case measures 45 mm in diameter and 15 mm thick with a complex black dial. The finished result can be airy and easy, but the development of the case was no small matter. "Because you cannot inject stainless steel to our quality standards, we have adapted the conceptual one-piece design to an eight-piece housing, pushing the boundaries of what is physically possible for a five-axis CNC machine," said Maik Panziera, the company's head of design.
And although Opus versions have been on the market for 25 years, the latest iteration of the watch is no less impressive in its design. The 300-piece jigsaw puzzle –– waterproof up to 100 meters –– has a new geometry with a 41 mm stainless steel case and shorter protrusions, which allow a more ergonomic hug of the wearer's wrist. Thanks to the redesigned composition, the skeletonized center is visible thanks to the improved layout and double anti-reflective treatment of the sapphire crystal.
The standard version has a silver dial, but Chronoswiss has also produced a limited edition style, where the partial dials of the chronograph's date, hours and minutes, and small seconds are drawn in blue and orange. Complementing its dynamic look, it comes with a textured Louisiana alligator leather strap.
