Retrospective: Met Gala 2019

This is THE glamorous date of the year. Every first Monday in May is the Met Ball, also known as the Met Gala. The very first edition took place in 1948 when the Costume Institute was founded. The principle is simple, every year a charity dinner is organized for the benefit of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, coupled with a theme evening. But not everybody can step on the red carpet at the Met Gala. To get there, your best chance is to be invited by Anna Wintour herself. And for good reason, the fashion popess - editor-in-chief of American Vogue - has presided over the evening since 1995. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, this year’s Met gala will not take place on the first Monday in May, like it was supposed to. The 2020 Costume Institute exhibit, “About Time: Fashion and Duration,” will open this October, but let’s take a look back at the best outfits from last year’s edition.
